George ends the Austrian Grand Prix in P4 despite a five-second penalty.

At the iconic Red Bull Ring, George lined up in P4 on a set of Medium Pirelli tyres ahead of the 71-lap race.

As the lights went out, George made an excellent start as he tried to catch Carlos Sainz Jr. ahead as the pair battled through Turn One before the Spaniard clinched the spot.

Defending his position, George and the Red Bull of Sergio Perez made contact at Turn Four sending the Mexican driver into the gravel and earning George a five-second penalty.

On lap 12, the Brit pitted to serve his penalty, switching to the Hard tyres and changing his damaged front wing, re-joining at the back of the grid in P19.

Charging back from his pit stop, George made huge progress, making up 10 places by lap 38 and chasing down Lando Norris for P8.

Running a two-stop strategy, George pitted for the second time on lap 41 to change to the Hard tyres and adjust his front wing before re-joining in P14.

Making his way into P9, George fought against Mick Schumacher to snatch P8 from the German driver.

George made up a further two places before the Virtual Safety car (VSC) was deployed on lap 58 after Sainz stopped on track.

With only 11 laps remaining, the VSC was withdrawn, and George set his sights on Esteban Ocon ahead, catching the Frenchman for P4.

As the chequered flag flew, George crossed the finish line in P4 on his incredible recovery drive.

George Russell – Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One™ Team Driver

I started P4 and finished P4 - and probably would have taken that before the race. But I'm a little disappointed at how everything unfolded. On lap one, Checo dived down the outside at Turn Four, then took a tight line. I had Sainz ahead and had to get up on the apex kerb. I thought the penalty was harsh - for me it was a racing incident. But after that, we optimised the race well from lap two. Looking at the positives: we had a 20 second pit stop at the start - and finished around 15 seconds behind the podium; I came back through the field from P19 to P4; and we maximised as a team. Now we need to get our heads down and keep pushing.
