ART GP3 Driver and Mercedes-AMG F1 Junior Driver George Russell will start the now only GP3 Series race at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza from 2nd on the grid, after the lap times from Free Practise were taken as the grid order – following the cancellation of Qualifying on Saturday morning due to adverse weather conditions.

Russell was pipped by ART teammate Nirei Fukuzumi late in the Friday afternoon’s GP3 Series Free Practice session, setting his best lap on the last lap of the session, setting a lap time of 1:38.594s, pipping the BRDC Superstar to the fastest time and lead home an ART 1-2-3-4, ahead of Russell, Anthoine Hubert and Jack Aitken at the head of the field.

Torrential rain on Saturday morning saw the conditions deemed too dangerous to allow the drivers to race in the early starting GP3 Series race. The race was postponed initially, before being declared cancelled later in the day – after the Formula One Qualifying was delayed by over two and half hours, with the timetable subsequently affected.

GP3 Series’ first race had been scheduled for a 5:50pm start, but with the rescheduled FIA Formula 2 race not yet completed due to the Formula One delay, the decision was taken to postpone the event until tomorrow morning. This means there will be no time in the schedule to fit in the second of the GP3 races, meaning the event is cancelled from this weekend’s proceedings – with the status on whether it may be run at a later date currently unconfirmed.

The sole GP3 Series race will take place at 9:00am local time (8:00am UK time) and be shown live on Sky Sports F1 HD.
